Penny Kek
King of the memes
Penny Kek is a distinguished tribute to the iconic Rare Pepe Nakamoto card—the spark that ignited the Rare Pepe phenomenon in 2016.
Pepe’s longstanding relationship with Bitcoin forms the core of this work, reinterpreted here with heightened symbolism, richer detail, and a reverence for its cultural lineage.
The “1st” insignia celebrates the card’s place as the first-ever Rare Pepe, echoing the original speed score embedded in Nakamoto’s debut. In this contemporary retelling, Pepe rises unmistakably as the King of Memes, with the central Satoshi figure crowned to set this edition apart from its historic counterpart. The backdrop—a cascade of Matrix-like characters derived from hashes of Bitcoin’s earliest blocks—anchors the piece in the cryptographic origins from which both Pepe and Bitcoin draw their mythos.
Every detail is intentional and encoded with meaning.
21 pips along the vertical edges honour Bitcoin’s immutable supply cap of 21 million.
15 pips along the horizontal edges pay homage to the original card’s health score.
The dimensions, 420mm × 297mm, nod simultaneously to the “420” motif and the 97 rarity score. Even the A3 format subtly references the card’s 3 attack value—another thread woven back into the Rare Pepe canon.
“Bitcoin is the meme of the people,” and Penny Kek embodies this truth with a blend of satire, symbolism, and cultural memory—an artefact that bridges digital folklore with the foundations of the Bitcoin revolution.
