On the first day of Kekmas my true love gave to me….

Pepe Powered by Satoshis

To turn on the light and spread the Pepe love, scan the QR code in your Lightning Bitcoin app. This should be $2 in sats for 2 minutes of lighting up Ho Ho Hodl which you can view in the webcam above. This obviously works better at night, but it is bright!

That $2 in sats is split evenly between a local foodbank (chosen the artists in Kekmas), local bitcoin meet ups and the artist.

This is experimental tech, so please be patient. Thank you for your donations.

Artist: Rebel Money
Name of Piece: Ho Ho Hodl
Medium: LED powered by Lightning
Contact: www.rebelmoney.art

Ho Ho Hodl is one of the first physical art pieces, if not the first, (happy to be corrected) to be powered by the Bitcoin Lightning network. By sending Sats from your lightning wallet to the above QR code address, you turn on the giant 1m x 1m Pepe Neon lights on. Literally spreading the light and good word of Bitcoin from anywhere in the world.

At the end of the 12 days of Kekmas the sats are split up. A third to the artist, a third to local bitcoin meet ups and a third to local charity. It is a piece that exposes people to Bitcoin, shows the incredible power of micropayments on Lightning, donates to charity and has fun at the same time.

Like Pepe and Bitcoin, this piece has a backstory of the underdog. In planning this piece, two locations in a busy city centre were sought and secured to display the work and get the maximum amount of exposure of the good message of Bitcoin and Pepe to a large population of passers by.

Art materials were bought and proof of work was done in planning, learning electronics to make the experience work (as well as the odd small electric shock).

However, after the collapse of FTX, both locations pulled out fearful that they would be associated with "Crypto” project. Despite protestations, attempted education and emphasis of the benefits of the project they didn’t want anything to do with it. Ho Ho Hodl Pepe didn’t have a home with a week until launch. The time sensitive piece was looking dead in the water.

We are Bitcoiners though. Rebels at heart, innovators and never happy to bow to authority.

They say rebellion begins at home, and no so more true in this case. In an act of defiance, I’ve located the Pepe on the front of my house facing a busy road in my town. Now you can light up my neighbourhood with the glow of a giant Pepe, donate to charity, spread the Bitcoin word and stick it to the man.

Merry Kekmas frens!

Very special thanks to Black Coffee and Ln Bits for making this possible. Special thanks to my supportive partner for allowing me to put a giant Christmas frog in our window :)
